Crush the flowers: Songs for singles
February 14, 2014
Flower petals trail the floors, the scent of chocolate permeates the air, a boy passes a couple and vomits in the corner — the nauseating season of Valentine’s Day has arrived. This is the most depressing time of year, especially for us singles. However, this is also the best time to assert your single status. Here are a few songs that you can jam to on Valentine’s night before reveling in half-priced chocolate tomorrow:
Kelly Clarkson – Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)
Clarkson’s 2012 hit still reigns true for the perfect single-empowering jam. If at any time during the course of the day you’re feeling down about your unfortunate single-ness, one listen will have you feeling renewed and energetic. Plus, it’s a great workout song to burn off all those chocolates you indulged in.
Miss A – I Don’t Need a Man
Starting off with an iconic, “This is for all the independent ladies,” this Korean language pop anthem highlights all the things women can do on their own without depending on a man. With a head-bopping beat, and a catchy chorus, it perfectly proclaims you’re proud of your single status.
P!nk – So What
With a grungy electric guitar backtrack and a punk rock feel, Pink’s classic hit defines the feeling of being single and free. The lyrics preach, “I’m alright” and “I don’t need you,” which further states the bliss of not having to depend on anyone. Even if you’ve never been in a relationship, this song will make you feel better about yourself.
2NE1 – I Don’t Care
This popular hit by one of K-pop’s biggest acts, 2NE1, is addictively catchy. The lyrics talk about getting over an untrustworthy boyfriend and not caring about him anymore. The repetitive chorus and clap-along beat will be stuck in your head all day. Despite not knowing the language, simply singing “I don’t care” all day will really prove your point of being totally fine alone.
