He finished with a time of 10.53 seconds, beating the previous record of 10.56 seconds. “I was trying to calm myself [before the race],” Coppedge said. “If you look at the Olympians, they’re just normal people standing up there. They’re not shaking; they’re kind of talking with each other, trying to calm themselves.”
