The volleyball team will play against Lewisville on Oct. 22 at 6:30 p.m. in the arena. The Lady Hawks are ranked first in the district, with an undefeated record of 11-0. Lewisville is ranked fourth in the district, with a record of 5-6.
“Our key to win the rest of the district season is to take care of our side,” head coach Rachel Buckley said. “[We are] making sure that we hold ourselves to our high standards. If we make sure that our side hits all of our goals, we will beat [Lewisville].”
The Lady Hawks have yet to concede a set in district play this season. The last time Lewisville won a set against Hebron was in 2017; prior to this year, Lewisville had not won a district match since 2018. Moreno said the team will be focusing on Lewisville’s outside hitter Sharon Skinner, who has one of the top 100 hitting percentages in the state.
“It’s my last time playing Lewisville, so I’m excited, but I’m also sad,” libero Carola Moreno said. “Lewisville shocked our entire district this year because they won their first district game [this year]. We need to be patient and trust our teammates, because that’s how we came back the last time we played them. Hopefully, we will win those sets and then the whole match.”
Hebron is ranked No. 14 in the state, whereas Lewisville is ranked No. 271 . The team will face Lewisville, Braswell and Flower Mound in its final stretch of games before playoffs.
“The better the team, the more fun it is to play,” Captain Cadence McDonald said. “I want them to be hype and think they have a chance, because that environment is so much better than knowing the opposite team will lose and having a boring game.”
Due to various injuries and a sickness plaguing the team throughout the season, there has yet to be a fully complete team this year.
“We’ve used [these games] as a cushion for us with all of these illnesses and absences the team has had,” Buckley said. “I can give the girls breaks that I probably wouldn’t have, had we been in a more competitive district. I am excited to see all of this fall into place at exactly the right moment. We’re going to get a full lineup and let that be the spark that takes us into [the] playoffs.”
