Silver Wings will compete at the North Dallas Showcase on Feb. 12 at Lebanon Trails High School. 

“With this being the most normal year we’ve all had recently, the most rewarding part has been seeing the Wings experience a more traditional football season and contest season,” assistant director Brooke Luna-Cannon said.

The competition is from 2:30-10:30 p.m. and the team will be participating in jazz, hip hop and modern dances. They will perform three dances as a team, one as an elite team and three dances with just officers. 

“Our goal for this contest is to just do our best and perform our routines better than ever,” captain Caroline Holloway said. 

The team practices every day in the morning and has been working on their routines since October. 

“I feel really confident about the contest,” head sergeant Audri Fleming said. “We have been working really hard for the past few months, and I am proud of my team no matter the outcome.”

Due to COVID-19, last year had some limitations, such as cancellations and limiting contact.

“COVID [has] affected our team this year by having more people out in the spring semester compared to the fall semester,” Holloway said. “But besides that, we don’t really have any restrictions, which is good.”

Throughout practices and contests, the team works together to improve one another as they aim to be positive role models through dance. 

“Silver Wings is not only a dance team, but a sisterhood,” Holloway said. “Along with doing dances the best way possible and making sure we’re clean, we’re also forming friendships.”
