Tennis to play Timber Creek on Friday

Senior Zachary Grasty practices his serves during 4th period. The tennis team typically performs better in the spring than the doubles-heavy fall semester, but this year they’re looking to go far in playoffs after beating Marcus and Flower Mound.

The tennis team is playing against Timber Creek at home on Sept. 19 at 4:15 p.m.

Senior Amogh Bhatnagar does not think Timber Creek will be hard to beat.

“I think it’s going to be a pretty easy match,” Bhatnagar said. “Flower Mound is probably the last hard match of the season until the actual playoffs, so it should be pretty easy.”

Tennis won their match against Flower Mound on Tuesday 13-6. Bhatnagar said that Coppell, Marcus and Flower Mound are the team’s biggest competition in the region.

“We lost to Coppell, which was expected because they’re one of the best teams,” Bhatnagar said. “But we beat Marcus, and they’re really strong and supposed to be better than us. It was really cool that we pulled that off. Because we beat Flower Mound, I think we have a good shot at going far in playoffs.”

The tennis team has never advanced to state, but consistently makes playoffs. Their record this year is currently undefeated except for the loss against Coppell.

“I think [the season] is going great,” Bhatnagar said. “Probably one of the best we’ve had while I was on the team. I think we’ve got a pretty good chance to make playoffs for sure, and probably do well. In the fall season, we haven’t done too well in the past, but I think we’re going to this season. It’s exciting.”
