Fine arts programs participate at TMEA

Some contestants who participated in TMEA ensembles pose for a photo at San Antonio. There were six choir ensembles and band members performed under the lead of new directors.

Band, choir and orchestra members participated at the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) convention held in San Antonio on Feb. 8-11.

“We had six all-staters and they covered three different choirs,” choir director Rachel Forester said. “They got a lot out of being with a different conductor and students that are like-minded. They were talking about how much the energy level impressed them and what they loved about the process.”

Teachers and directors attended sessions and classes that allowed them to improve their teaching skills and how to make their classes more lively. Students from band, choir, and orchestra participated in all-state ensembles during the convention and won awards.

“I think we did really [during the concerts] overall,” sophomore Shiwon Hong said. “We had a lot of rehearsals during the convention. I think the directors did really well in conducting us. Maybe they were a little rough on us at times, but that was for us to do well.”
