The Carrollton Public Library at Josey Ranch Lake will hold an “Enchanted Library” event on Nov. 22 from 5-8 p.m. where kids, teenagers and adults can participate in various magical themed activities.
“We wanted to tap into the magic of the holiday season with a nod to all of the fantasy, fairytales and folklore that fill the library’s shelves,” adult services supervisor Kerri Whitmer said. “Coming so quickly after Halloween, we thought it would be fun to give kids and adults one more opportunity to wear their fantasy and fairy tale costumes.”
The tagline for the event is “Unlock the Magic,” where kids can participate in a fairy tale story time. There will also be a fairy tale scavenger hunt where they find fantasy pictures within the library, and fantasy themed crafts where kids can make unicorn masks, dragon eggs and get glitter tattoos.
“‘Enchanted Library’ is a showcase of our space, a sample of our programs, and a chance for staff to plan, prepare and facilitate a large-scale event,” Whitmer said. “The library has something for everyone. This event also gives our Teen Advisory Council the opportunity to plan an activity for the public.”
Events for all ages include fantasy trivia, a dragon lair’s escape room — which contestants have to register for beforehand, — a photobooth and sensory break area. Preparations started in May with library staff working to plan and schedule activities and make materials while giving their time after hours to help this event roll smoothly.
“An event that attracts 500 or more people requires many months of careful planning and preparation,” Whitmer said, “Months of work have gone into [making this possible] with staff from across the entire library assisting in [a myriad of tasks to get the job done.]”
Whitmer said the event aims to provide an opportunity for the community to gather at the library and have fun while being in the atmosphere of things whimsical, fantastical and fantasy-related.
“The library is dedicated to providing quality recreational and educational programming to the Carrollton community,” Whitmer said, “We want people to come to the event, have a good time, and walk away with an appreciation for the library’s programs and services.”
