The Silver Wings will perform their annual spring show, “Perspective,” at 7 p.m. May 2, 3 and 4 in the auditorium. Tickets range from $5-20.
“We’re going to soak up every minute of [the show,]” captain Makenzie Klaus said. “[The] spring show is such a special thing to us, and I know we’ll prove to the audience, each other and ourselves that we can pull through anything.”
The team has had a new assistant director every year for the past four years. This year, it was Lauren Wheeler, who took over as interim director in January and was officially promoted to head director April 4.
“It was a little overwhelming, but the girls were a great support system that really walked me through everything,” Wheeler said. “I’m proud of how they’ve helped me and each other get through the year.”
Each year, the officers and head director come up with a theme. This year, the team decided on “Perspective.” The dances will walk the audience through different visions throughout one’s life.
“It’s going to be interesting to see how the audience takes on the journey of the different perspectives of love and life,” Wheeler said. “I really hope the audience takes away the joy of watching beautiful dance with a new perspective on what we do and who we, as Silver Wings, are.”
Earlier this season, the Silver Wings placed first in every category they competed in during a competition at Argyle High School in February. In their second competition, the Elite Team and Officer Team placed in the top two in their categories. Of the four routines the team competed with, two were retired and two will be performed during “Perspective.”
“[This show] will help people understand Silver Wings more,” first lieutenant Kate Walker said. “People always think that we just perform at pep rallies or football games, but we do so much more and this show will prove that.
Officers have also been able to cut their own music, choreograph a routine and teach it to the team. Wheeler said it has been a challenge to navigate how far to push the team, but she is proud of what the Silver Wings have been able to do this year.
“My biggest hope is for the team to enjoy the culmination of a year of hard work and adversity,” Wheeler said. “We’ve had a lot of early mornings and hard practices, so having that sweet taste of the actual performance is important. I want them to enjoy it, to go out there, do their best and feel the audience’s joy.”
