The senior class is conducting a diaper drive March 1-12 to support Lewisville Learning Center’s (LLC) School Age Parent Program (SAPP).

Students can drop off diapers in five designated areas: outside the front office in the front of the school, below the Hawk Pride sign in the cafeteria, two upstairs locations and in front of senior class sponsor Christina Shadow’s room, 1305.

“We’re collecting diapers of all sizes,” Shadow said. “You don’t have to bring a lot. I got a huge case which is awesome, but I also got a package for around $8. They’re not crazy expensive, but they can get crazy expensive if you have a baby that’s using them all of the time.”

SAPP is a program for teen parents who attend the LLC to finish their high school degree. The LLC has a clothing closet where parents can get clothes and diapers.

“[Principal Amy] Boughton reached out to us last week to let us know that the LLC was running low on diapers, and they really needed some help,” senior class president Jeremiah Joseph said. “She asked us if we could hold the drive, so we set it up as fast as we could.”

Students can get hours from Student Council, Family Career and Community Leaders of America, Key Club and National Honor Society for donating diapers.

“It’s a chance for us to give back to the community and help those in need,” Joseph said. “Diapers are really expensive for them, so anything helps. We often forget that there are people in our community that need help, this year especially.”
