Boys basketball prepping for upcoming season
With a whole season to look forward to, the boys varsity basketball head coach, Mark Bishop, said the team hopes to win a championship this year. Last year with 24 wins, seven losses, and winning the district championship, Bishop would say that they had a successful year.
Bishop said he plans on making the team feel like a family to make all the prep time easier by making the team feel they were working with friends rather than mere acquaintances.
“With all the incoming football [players], newcomers and the ones that returned, the team seems to be really getting along with one another,” Bishop said. “That just makes the process [of winning] so much smoother.”
Bishop plans on working the team in every aspect possible on and off the court. They practice their skills nonstop along with conditioning in the gym and on the track. Bishop said after exiting playoffs after the last round, the team plans to come out hungrier than ever. Varsity got to practice all their skills at the two shootouts which are similar to scrimmages.
“Last year the boys didn’t win the championship, but [the loss] seemed to light a fire in them making them work that much harder and hustle on and off the court,” Bishop said. “I just see how bad they want it and they are definitely putting in the time and work. The team is a great group and I believe that this year we will bring home the big [championship].”
