Band prepares for national competition
Next weekend, November 12-14, the band will compete in their final contest of the season, the Bands of America Grand Nationals held in Indianapolis. This will be the first time that the band has attended this contest, but band members have high hopes for their finish.
“We’ve got a shot to make some noise at Grand Nationals” said junior trumpet player Iman Anwar. “We’re definitely better marchers as a full band this year.”
Additionally, band will be hosting a preview performance of their competition program entitled “360°” on Monday night at Hawk Stadium,
The band also competed in the Bands of America Super Regional Competition Saturday, Oct. 31 in San Antonio. The rainy Halloween evening saw the band place fourth in the finals round with a score of 91.6, behind Claudia Taylor Johnson, Ronald Reagan, and champion Flower Mound. The finish was the second highest in the school’s history at the contest. Hebron tied with Marcus High School for the Highest Achievement Award in the Music category. Marcus ended up slotted into sixth place. Ronald Reagan took the award for Highest Achievement in Visual with their show “Every(one),” and Flower Mound earned the Highest General Effect with their program “Surreal.” The adverse weather complicated the day’s schedule, with several bands having to drop out of the contest entirely due to severe weather warnings.
