Photo Story: endangered animals at the National Zoo
The Smithsonian National Zoo hosts a variety of animals that are endangered or vulnerable. Here’s a look at some of them:
One of the Smithsonian Zoo’s tigers drinks water in its exhibit. Tigers are endangered due to habitat degradation for agriculture, such as the creation of palm oil plantations. “Avoid certain products like palm oil, which are decreasing the habitat for a lot of these animals,” Smithsonian Zoo volunteer Yvonne Barton said. “Once the animals are gone, they are gone.”
