My Top Five Sports Movies
There are a plethora of well made and amazing sports movies that exist in this world, and I’m sure there will be even more to come. Due to not being able to watch any actual sports, here’s my top five favorite sports movies:
5: Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story.
I loved how they incorporated so much comedy into a movie about dodgeball, and the movie shows Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn at their best. Also, I’ll never forget how that movie introduced me to “The Ocho,” a channel I sometimes watch in my spare time. Because of this movie, I’ll never forget the five rules of dodgeball: Dodge, duck, dip, dive, dodge. And yes, I know dodge is on there twice.
4: Hoosiers
“Hoosiers” is a sports movie that transcends sports. It’s a movie about faith, courage, redemption and has a clear message of second chances. This movie causes you to care for the team and town, although it is just a movie. It’s easily one of Dennis Hopper’s best acting jobs due to the fact that he received nominations as best supporting actor in the Oscars and Golden Globes.
3:The Sandlot.
This movie was a childhood favorite, and I remember watching it a large number of times with my friends and family. Although I have to admit, the dog scared me everytime. While also winning the Young Artist Award for outstanding youth ensemble in a motion picture, the Sandlot has so many memorable quotes that I can remember, but the legendary, “you’re killin me Smalls!” will be remembered by everyone who watched “The Sandlot.”
2: Rudy
“Rudy” is the story about a boy who grows up in a poor Irish home and dreams of going to the University of Notre Dame. Although it evokes a strong sense of realism, this movie taught me that hard work will eventually pay off and that if you believe in yourself, you can find success in anything. “Rudy” was the victor of the Christopher Award and the Studio Crystal Heart Award, as well as being nominated for the Young Artist Award. If you haven’t watched this movie then please go watch it right now.
1: Rocky
The whole series of “Rocky” movies is amazing and unforgettable. But the first “Rocky” is a classic that made Sylvester Stallone a superstar, and is a true story about an underdog rising to stardom. This movie is easily one of Stallone’s best, and just to prove how great this movie is, here are a few stats: Rocky won three Oscars, ranked at No. 229 in best movies of all time according to IMBD, had seven Oscar nominations, won the Golden Globe for best motion picture, five additional Golden Globe nominations, one Grammy nomination and countless other feats. As with Rudy, I highly encourage you to watch this movie if you haven’t done so yet.
