“Never Say Never” Justin Bieber is Back
Gen Z has grown up with Justin Bieber and his fame. We have experienced every stage, starting with “Bieber fever.” Posters of him covered our walls, we read about 16-year-old Bieber in a “J-14” magazine, and then, in the blink of an eye we find out that our first love got married.
Bieber, now 25, hasn’t released an album since November 2015. During his four-year hiatus, everyone judged his ups and downs in life. After going on stage with Ariana Grande to sing his hit song “Sorry” at Coachella in 2019, he announced he had an album coming soon. Afterward, he went to Instagram at the start of 2020 to share his plans for a new docu-series, album and tour with his followers.
Bieber first took a break from his music in 2017 after canceling the last 14 shows of the “Purpose” tour due to the condition of his mental health. Since then, Bieber married Hailey Baldwin in September 2018, and has been featured in a few songs such as “I Don’t Care” by Ed Sheeran, “10,000 hours” by Dan and Shay and the remix of Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy.”
Although he has accomplished some great things in the last three years, Bieber also put himself in the middle of some internet drama. On April 1, 2018, Bieber took to Instagram to share a photo of his wife receiving an ultrasound with the caption, “If U thought it was April Fools,” and fans naturally thought they were expecting a child. He later received backlash for the April Fools’ prank. In the summer of 2019, a photo that Bieber posted in 2016 resurfaced. The photo had Bieber, who is signed with Scooter Braun, on FaceTime with Braun and another one of his clients, Kanye West. The photo was captioned “Taylor Swift what up,” Swift shared it to prove her point that Braun, West and Bieber had bullied her because of her feud with Braun ever since he purchased her old record label and now owns her back catalog.
Bieber has apologized for his mistakes, but that doesn’t mean he’ll still make the comeback he’s hoping for. His first solo release of the new year came out on Jan. 3. The song is titled “Yummy.” It has a nice sound until you pay attention to the lyrics. The redundancy is catchy, but not in a good way, considering it says “yummy” or “yum” 55 times in under four minutes. However, Bieber released another song on Jan. 28 titled “Get Me,” featuring Kehlani. This was a game-changer. The subtle tone of this song puts me in a good mood and allows me to focus on other things while listening or totally sing my heart out.
Overall, I feel like we can expect Bieber to have a few great tracks on his new album “Changes,” but I don’t think that all of them will be fan favorites. As for his upcoming tour, I don’t think we can trust his promises of following through with the entire tour given his past. Bieber has lots of people supporting his plans for 2020, but it’s up to him to prove himself worthy to me and the other skeptics. He needs to do what’s best for him without crushing the hearts of his supporters once again. If he can follow through with all of his promises and have a few hit songs this year, I think he’ll win my heart over again.
