[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]It’s 1982 and the Sunset Strip is full of rock bands trying to become famous, young women trying to meet them and journalists trying to dig up as much dirt on them as possible.
All seems to be going well until women begin to go missing. As detectives find the bodies one by one, it becomes clear that they are dealing with the work of a serial killer.
The pilot episode of ABC’s new show was shocking to say the least. With a name like “Wicked City” it would be wrong to expect anything less than lust and greed. Although I was prepared to watch an hour of a decent-looking actor lying and killing his way through the Sunset Strip, I was in no way ready for something so disturbing.
Or graphic. While many people are becoming increasingly desensitized thanks to shows such as “American Horror Story” and “Bates Motel,” it’s difficult to not react to women being stabbed to death. My weak stomach aside, I actually did enjoy the show. Its unexpected twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat, eager to discover what main character Kent would do next.
Ed Westwick delivered a convincing performance as Kent Grainger, the Sunset Strip Killer. Erika Christensen was excellent in her role as both mother of two and love interest of a murderer. Supporting actor Jeremy Sisto was very believable as the FBI agent trying to find the killer. If there is any character I’d root for, it’s him. Though not roles one would expect any of these actors to shine in, they all did fairly well.
The plot was good and the casting was great, but the scenery was what made the show. From the outfits to the lingo, everything felt so authentic. Watching the bands play in 1980s nightclubs and seeing all the big hair and neon pink made me truly feel as if I was watching something straight out of the ‘80s.
Although a touch creepy, “Wicked City” is definitely worth watching. I am eager to see what’s going to happen next on the Sunset Strip.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][image_with_animation image_url=”3521″ animation=”Fade In” img_link_target=”_self”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][tabbed_section][tab title=”Pros” id=”1446748909520-10″][vc_column_text]
